Scott A. Edwards
- Village Trustee Elect -
After a lengthy career as a firefighter and small business owner, and volunteering in the village for the past 25 years, Scott believes that public service is the greatest honor that can be given to an individual.
He joined the Malverne Junior Fire Department in 1993 after attending Maurice W. Downing Elementary School and Howard T. Herber Middle School. Becoming a firefighter at 18, Scott was then elected by his peers to the positions of Warden, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, and Chief. He was honored as Village of Malverne Fire Department Volunteer of the Year in 2003 and Lynbrook Elks Lodge Annual Fire Award recipient in both 2005 and 2015.
During his six-year tenure as Chief, Scott developed a positive working relationship with the Village Board where, along with the other dedicated volunteers, great improvements were made to communication equipment, training, and firefighting procedures to effectively and efficiently prepare the Malverne Fire Department for the future.
Scott served as Chief of Department during Hurricane Sandy, where they not only mitigated an unprecedented number of calls for help, but also provided mutual-aid assistance to the overwhelmed City of Long Beach and other south shore neighborhoods affected by severe flooding.
While enrolled at Adelphi University, Scott began his career with the Fire Department of New York in October 2001. He had the privilege of serving the residents of the City of New York, specifically in Brooklyn and Queens, and responded to thousands of fire related emergencies.
In 2014, Scott was accepted to the Special Operations Command of the FDNY receiving specialized training from State and Federal authorities for expertise in technical rescue incidents including building collapse, high angle rope rescue, terrorism and hazardous materials. He was deployed to the City of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to answer calls for help and re-establish basic emergency services within the devastated city. Scott retired from the FDNY in 2020.
Additionally, as a small business owner, Scott was responsible for all aspects of retail operations including daily operations, inventory, accounts payable and receivable, human resources and community relationships. Completely destroyed in 2012 by Hurricane Sandy, Scott and his business partner would persevere, rebuild, and grow the business again into a successful operation that was sold in 2019.
Scott Edwards, his wife Christy, and their daughter Olivia have been residents of the Village of Malverne since 2010.
